When time and gravity take their toll on our faces, we’re left yearning for a more firm, smoother and supple face – and HIFU can offer just that

HIFU means High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, which has been dubbed the “non-surgical facelift“.

Promising to turn back the collagen clock, HIFU helps your skin to regain its internal support – and you can have it yourself at Dr. Kamil Al Rustom Skin and Laser Centre in Dubai.

If you opt to undergo HIFU at the clinic, their team will explain how the treatment provides skin tightening from deep with the body’s tissue – 3 layers down! As a result, the treatment boosts new collagen production and collagen regeneration.

What is HIFU?

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is an FDA approved technology, which promises to deliver remarkable results in skin-lifting applications… Particularly chin lifts, brow lifts and jawline redefinition.

Working as a non-invasive face-lift, it helps to tighten your skin, iron out your wrinkles and shrink your pores.

HIFU also helps to improve overall skin tone, brightness and elasticity, which is great if you want a more defined jawline, and help to eliminate that double chin.

How does HIFU work?

The treatment works with a high intensity ultrasound energy, which is focused on your chosen treatment area. Emitted through a hand-held device, the high energy is transferred to the focal area, and provides only low energy to the surrounding regions.

By using ultrasound in the spots where the energy is focused, the deeper layers of your skin are targeted – and it does not cause harm along the way, especially to the epidermis and dermis.

The ultrasound causes vibrations amongst the tissue particles in the targeted area, which then generate a thermal energy that causes micro injury to the tissues.

These thousands of tiny micro-injuries help to provoke collagen regeneration across three layers: the SMAS, sub-dermal and deep-dermal levels.

Do HIFU treatments hurt?

The only part of any HIFU treatment you undergo that may cause concern is not knowing what to expect. The treatment begins on your jawline with a low frequency for comfort, and then your therapist will increase the frequency depending on your pain threshold.

The hand-held device placed on your skin shoots the ultrasound every second, and it feels very similar to tiny electrical pulses – a little prickly, tickly and with some warmth.

If you have concerns over any discomfort you may have during your HIFU treatment, you can request a topical pain relief to be applied before beginning.

Is there any downtime with HIFU treatments?

As HIFU is entirely a non-invasive treatment, it has little to no downtime.

However, the treatment(s) may cause redness, mild discomfort, pain or sensation of heat for a few seconds. These effects are brief, and are usually resolved instantly.

Pain relief medication can be taken, and generally redness subsides within an hour post-treatment. You will be able to return to your normal routine straight away, but you should refrain from sunbathing and reduce sub exposure in general.

Some improvement from your HIFU treatment will be visible immediately, and your youthfulness should unfold over the coming weeks and months, leaving you with a contoured, smooth and radiant glow.
